Wimbledon Introduces Video Replay System in 2025.

Wimbledon tennis court with replay system

Wimbledon will follow the US and Aussie Opens in employing replay systems.

Replay systems will be launched at Wimbledon in the upcoming tournament.

Athletes are granted the ability to question certain decisions from the chair umpire, following the practice currently in operation at each of the US Open and the Aussie major.

This innovation is slated for use on Centre Court and the number one court throughout the Championships and on the remaining show courts when they are staging singles contests.

This step comes just a year after the AELTC implemented electronic line calling, which terminated the longstanding role of line judges.

Scope of Challenges

Competitors cannot to dispute the call of the ELC system, but they can request the official to re-examine specific decisions, including:

  • If a ball has bounced twice.
  • Whether a shot touched an rival's racket or body on the way past.
  • Possible interference at the conclusion of a point.

Importantly, there is an unlimited number on the number of challenges a competitor can request.

A Recent Example

An illustrative example occurred in a recent tournament last week, where a top player used the review system against his opponent.

The British player admitted it was a difficult situation for the official, but thought his opponent had "used the regulations quite well."

Official Aurelie Tourte watched a replay and ruled Draper was guilty of hindrance, awarding the rally to Medvedev.

Growing Trend

This technology are not new for Grand Slams. The system was adopted at the American major since 2023 and the Aussie Open since 2025.

Additionally, it is becoming more common on the WTA circuit, and by next season the men's ATP Tour will have video reviews implemented at every one of its events.

Further Updates

Another innovation at The Championships this year involves the introduction of graphical cues on scoreboards to support the audio calls from the electronic line calling system.

This addresses instances where fans have occasionally been unsure if a shot was out or in.

In other news, with exactly a century of days remaining until the beginning of the tournament, organizers have also announced an increase in daily attendance at the qualifiers in the qualifying venue.
